On Saturday, Mama and I painted. We got the trim painted in Caroline's room and the master bedroom. It took two coats to really get it covered good. We also painted Caroline's room. It's done, but may need another quick coat to catch a few thin places. It looks good, though. The only thing left that hasn't gotten a coat of paint is the closet doors. We still need to decide whether the doors will be white like the trim or yellow like the walls. I think we're going to go with white, though.
This week, I am trying to get more painting done. I started on the master bedroom. I like the blue color. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks when it's finished. I have decided, though, that I really need Mama to do the lines where the two paint colors come together. Unfortunately, she's out a town for almost two weeks. I'm going to keep trying, but I think she may have to clean up my "mess" when she gets back.
This weekend, Norm and Ginger are coming to help. I'm not exactly sure what Norm and Matt are going to work on. There are quite a few projects that could use the knowledge that Norm has. I'm hoping that either Ginger or I will be able to get more painting done (the other will probably be watching the kids). I bought the remainder of the paint tonight, so we're good to go on whatever room we might want to paint.
Now...on to the decision. I want to get some input from all of you. The kitchen and dining room are divided by some wood shelves that look homemade. They're not bad, but they're not all that pretty either. I'm thinking of taking them out. Actually, I already told the men that they could take them out, but it just hasn't happened yet. Now, I'm debating again about taking them out. Taking them out would make the whole area feel more like one. That is both a good thing and a bad thing. It would certainly make the flooring easier. It would also make the wall where the refrigerator is located much more functional. On the other hand, if they were removed, it would be much more like an eat in kitchen. That's fine with me, but I don't know what it would do for resale. There is also another potential problem...the divider on the left side is right up against the cabinet. When it is removed, there could be problems with the end panel of the cabinet. There's no way to tell without getting into it. Oh yeah...the other thing is that Matt is planning to install a dishwasher in the kitchen. It will be on the left side of the sink. That means that it will be in the section of cabinets just behind the left divider. Ok. I think that's enough thoughts. Here are some pictures. Let me know what kind of thought you have!

(Nathan just couldn't stand it...he had to get in a picture!)

I think that they should come down. The idea was a good one, but I don't love those spindles. If you need more space or counter or storage, a peninsula on the non-refrigerator side might give the kitchen a better separation, but that is a whole 'nother ball o wax.
So, what are you doing with 2 blues in the master? Can't wait to see it all! And remember, blue tape is your friend for all of those two paints coming close to each other.
Or, at least the spindles should come down. How do you like your cabinets? do they need any reworking or are they in good condition?
There is only one blue in the master. The two colors that I was referring to was the white on the ceiling/trim and the blue on the walls. I finished up that room today, so I hope to get some pictures of it and Caroline's room soon.
The cabinets are dated, but nice. They are in very good shape. I don't intend to do anything to them right now (other than a good cleaning). Eventually, we may put all new cabinets in the kitchen.
I agree with Elizabeth that the spindles need to go.
I think that a coat of paint would go a long way, maybe the color you are painting the wall.
Also, you could just take out the one on refrigerator side to make the wall more functional while keeping some division and not having to worry about the cabinets on the left side.
Is there wood paneling above the cabinets?
Sort of...it's wood that matches the cabinets. I don't remember if that space is usable or not.
So I'm late with the comments. But having a separating wall myself, it comes in handy. The first thing I thought of was to leave the walls between the kithen. The areas around the shelving on the carpet side would be really cool for the kids if you could use the chalkboard paint on one side and maybe the magnetic paint and give them their own little area.
That's a cool idea, jenn jenn. Some paint would make it look fresh -- and chalkboard paint sounds like fun!
