redneck Georgia boy?

This past Saturday, we all went down to Jennifer's dad's hunting land that he is leasing with a group of other men from church. Everybody brought their families for a cookout and a bit of work on various things to get ready for deer season. Last year, my in-laws got me a camo hunting suit after I had asked about going hunting sometime. It didn't work out to go last year because it was so late in the season. I am going to go this year, though. I am taking the required hunter education course at the beginning of November.

After we got done at the cookout, we drove to the firing range at the Ocmulgee WMA to sight in the rifles. I will be using a lever action .30-.30. My father-in-law has a scoped semiautomatic .30-06. We shot at a target at 50 yards. Unfortunately, we could not see where the rounds were hitting, even with the binoculars I had brought. After shooting the .30-.30, I shot a few rounds with the .30-06. It is more powerful than the .30-.30, but both kick pretty hard. Certainly harder than my 12 gauge shotgun with birdshot. This was my first time shooting a rifle other than a .22.

This is my target shot with the .30-.30. All eight rounds hit fairly close. I was happy with it given it was my first time and I was using open sights.

I guess I will officially become a redneck Georgia boy when I go deer hunting. That is, if I don't already qualify otherwise.

I don't know, owning a camo hunting suit I'd say qualifies you already!

but, do you have a car in your yard on blocks? that is the defining moment for Reddy Redneckerson (as Josh affectionately terms our neighbors).

I agree with Erin, owning the camo hunting suit was probably the tipping point. I don't know much about gun sizes/ratings/accuracy, but your 50 yard target looks better than the one I shot a few Christmases ago. Maybe playing video games doesn't help as much as owning a camo hunting suit =).
