recent projects

When we bought our house, there was an old rusty swing sitting out back. For some reason, I liked it. It's not anything special, but I liked it. It came with the house and it seemed like it needed to be fixed up and used...to stay with the house. It's only taken more than two and half years, but it finally got it's "remodel" (thanks in part to Norm & Ginger). Here are two pictures for comparison. The "before" picture isn't great, but it's what I could find. And the "after" picture is when the swing was still sitting out in the yard where I painted it.

And today I borrowed a pressure washer from my parents (thanks, Daddy!) and cleaned up the back patio. It was really cruddy and needed some major cleaning. The best place to see the difference in these pictures is at the mat at the bottom of the stairs. In the "before" picture, there's not much difference in color. In the "after" picture...well...major difference.

Next on my list is to repaint the railing for the stairs and also the patio table and chairs...and maybe even the back door.

Isn't it amazing what a coat of paint can do? The new swing looks great.

wow! That swing looks really sweet! So, did you have the cushions made or were you able to find some at a store?? Everything looks really great!

Yep...a little elbow grease and some paint. :)

Liz, I just bought some...well...Norm and Ginger bought me some. It took a little effort to find some that fit ok. It's actually two chair cushions and they're a little tall, but I think they work well.

You're inspiring me to get out and clean up our back patio. It looks disgusting...we actually found that if the girls sprinkle sand on it and we sweep it around, it's almost as good as a pressure wash job =)I just need to get out there!
I love your cushions...and that you just reused what you already had. Great job!

I'll have to remember the sand tip and try it next time. I don't think it would have done much this time, though, because it was SOOO gross.

The cushions came from Walmart.

It all looks sooooo good! I'm so glad you found cushions that work well, and I love the colors. Now it looks like an inviting, restful spot.

The patio table and chairs look like they're in good condition...do you just want a different color?

They're just starting to get rusty spots at some of the intersections. I think it would be good to go ahead and get it taken care of before it gets bad and needs sanding and such. And I'll probably do them black if I redo them...just because.
