On Sunday, we used the last diaper in our possession for Nathan's nap time. I was about to go do a little shopping, so I asked him if he wanted me to buy some more diapers or if he wanted to start wearing underwear when he sleeps. He said he wanted to wear underwear, so we said "ok." So...we are attempting to take the next step in potty training.
So far, he wet a couple times Sunday night, three times Monday nap, and twice Monday night. He didn't wet before going to sleep today, but we'll see if he's still dry when I get him up. While I don't like changing pee pee clothes or bedding, it's worth it to do it (all the time) for a week or two if we get him out of diapers. Luckily, he hasn't been pooping in his diapers much, so maybe we won't have to clean up too much of that. That is definitely a different animal!!
(As a side note, I did buy more diapers...but he doesn't know.)

Ah, the prepared mother! I think it's smart to let him be so active in it. Instead of imposing potty training, he sounds like he wants to do it. How has he reacted to wetting the bed? Does it distress him?
I've tried to make sure he's interested all along the way. That doesn't mean that he's always wanted to do what he needs to do.
Unfortunately, he doesn't get upset about wetting the bed or himself. I wish he did...it would help! He does, however, really like the incentive of getting stickers or wearing his train underwear if he stays dry.
As an update, he stayed dry for his nap yesterday. Yay! Last night he was good about getting up before he went to sleep and was still dry about 12:30 when I finally headed to bed...but he was wet this morning. That's good progress, though. We're still not really sure if he goes in his sleep or not.
If he were to wake up needing to go, would he get out of bed?
Sorry to be so long in answering your question...I'm not sure that he would get up if he had to go. That's part of what we're working on teaching him.
