yard work

Last Saturday, Matt and I (with some help from the kids) did some yard work. We're still slowly marching toward getting the yard in shape. There is still a TON to do. Now that it's starting to cool off just a little, we can get back outside some. Anyway, here are some before and after pictures of most of our work. In this before picture, you can see that we had sunflowers that were drying up in the front. Behind that is a dead azalea covered in bunches of weedy vines. Behind that was a privet bush that was getting bigger and bigger. It was all junk that needed to be removed. Also, you can't really see it in the picture, but there was a tree growing up in the middle of the dogwoods and azaleas that Matt cut down. Thanks for all the help, Matt! Now, we just have to figure out what to do with that space. As you can see, there is a bunch of monkey grass there. We may move it somewhere else in the yard...or we can incorporate that space into a flower bed of some sort. We'll see. If anybody has suggestions, feel free to leave them!

You guys are amazing. And YOU are amazing. Doing yardwork when you aren't feeling that great? So, when is the one year anniversary of the house?

My neighbor planted a bunch of daffodils next to his fence & they look so great each spring. I've also seen Iris's used that way. I've got iris's in our yard & they grow ANYWHERE! And with no water!

black eyed susans are great also! my neighbor planted some in our flower beds and they thrive and multiply great! they would make a colorful hedge type thingy along the fence!

Daylilies would also be pretty.

I'm starting to feel better, but it helps to be busy. I guess I don't think about how I'm feeling as much. I had to be careful how much I did, though, since I got tired quicker.
